Do you love beautiful garbage that might kill your family? Then Unique is the appliance company for you! Safety concerns, malfunctioning since day one (warranty is a scam) and the general design is poor. Save your money and buy a reliable brand. I know these are cute & cheap but it’s an affordable / adorable trick.. not to mention a waste of money. I wish we had not purchased 3 of their matching products at one time and designed our kitchen around them. We purchased the 24” Retro Gas Range along with the matching Refrigerator & Vent Hood. Their 1 year warranty is a scam. The oven came malfunctioning and despite hours on the phone / months of follow up with their “warranty” department and numerous messages with corporate, they have never called me back, sent anyone out or fixed a thing. That was 3 years ago. The initial problem was that the broiler never worked. The problem that evolved shortly there after is that the oven has trouble lighting and staying lit. There is no notification when the flame goes out and gas is free flowing into your home so you have to check it every few minutes, for at least the first 10 minutes of pre-heating, to ensure it stays on. Recently it has started taking about 5 minutes to get the oven to even turn on and when it inevitably shuts off without warning it takes another few minutes to get it back on and hope that it stays lit / on. We have had this range for 3 years and have to get a new one for fear of leaking gas / blowing up our home. I have heard of planned obsolesce but this is selling garbage and not standing behind it, plain and simple. The Refrigerator we got rid of after about 2 years because of a huge flaw in it’s design. It is apparently designed for the condensation to run down the back of the fridge and pool under the produce drawer. Not only does this cause your food to freeze against the back wall of the fridge but the pooling water is a cesspool for mold growth. The vent hood is beautiful & powerful but it sounds like an industrial fan running in your kitchen, when on. I should have written this a long time ago but I’ve been pregnant, having babies, raising children and you know… life haha BUYER BEWARE!
Unique 9.7 CF Direct Vent Propane Review I purchased this fridge in 2017 through Costco to use at my off grid cabin. I absolutely love it, would never be without one again. I have had an issue with it randomly going out, but Tim and the staff at Unique have been absolutely great in supporting me. Ultimately, the issue of it going out was due to me not installing the thermocouple far enough into the flame, even though it looked good to me. This caused me – and them – A LOT of grief as we worked through the problem. When the thermocouple was not quite far enough into the flame, the fridge might run for a week, then randomly shut off. Many times, it sounded like the flame was fighting wind. I believe its because the thermocouple was struggling between telling the fridge whether it should be on or off. Once I moved the thermocouple just a tiny bit further into the flame, Fridge ran like a charm. All I can say is the support I received was excellent. My brother and a friend also have Unique propane fridges and they too have received excellent after sales support. I would not hesitate at all to buy again. A second fridge might be in my future, and without question, it will be from Unique. Not sure if it will be propane or Solar, but I do know it will be from Unique. And to my knowledge, they are the only ones who have a Direct Vent Fridge, which if you are installing it inside your dwelling, you need to have for insurance, and safety purposes.
We recently had a need to order a known replacement for the CO monitor on our cottage Unique fridge. I sent a request to their Service group, and within hours, Vlad, the Parts Manager responded with the appropriate parts and instructions to install the newer model of CO monitor. I highly recommend this team and company. We have a propane Unique fridge and stove at the cottage and they work brilliantly.
The stove for the price is garbage only one burner on bottom very uneven cooking. Extremely hard to light. Range hood paint is cracking and peeling from day one. Called customer service never called back. Expensive crap never buy again!!
*** UPDATE: UNIQUE HAS SENT ME A REPLACEMENT STOVE. THEY SAID MY ORIGINAL STOVE HAD AN ISSUE WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN RESOLVED - HOPING THIS ONE IS BETTER. UNFORTUNATELY, I'M STILL LEFT WITH AN EXTRA SERVICE FEE FOR INSTALLING THE NEW STOVE, BUT THANK YOU, UNIQUE APPLIANCES, FOR RESPONDING TO MY REVIEWS. *** Purchased a Unique Appliances 24 inch gas stove through Home Depot, and after just over a year the paint bubbled and peeled off! Many similar reviews on The Home Depot site. The oven is difficult to light and the thermostat doesn't work. I was past my warranty but did contact them - they said I could purchase a new thermostat. Also sent images - they did not say anything. Avoid this manufacturer! BBB rating of F. There should be a class action suit against them for knowingly selling defective products!!
I had a Unique fridge that stopped working after 3 years and got a hold of there service tek frank and he walked me through several checks to see what was wrong and we determined that the cooling system was faulty so they sent me a new fridge on warranty at no charge and it was delivered in less then two weeks free of charge thanks for the great service.
Bought a Unique propane fridge 5 1/2 years ago, had nothing but problems with it - flame blown out by someone closing exterior door too hard and blown out frequently if it was windy outside, resulting in coming back to the cabin to a stinky fridge full of rotten food several times. Very frustrating, but not as frustrating as the fridge's early demise at 5 1/2 years old, right after the warranty expiration. I would expect a $2000 fridge to be more reliable and to last longer than five years. Will not be replacing with another Unique fridge.
