Unpleasant experience. I came into the store 5min before close which I’m not aware of. 1 staff at the check out counter snickered at me and called two other girls ( like why someone come in just a few minutes before closing). And she immediately shut the door when I left store which is still 3 minutes before closing.
It can be a hit or a miss to find something (makes sense for a secondhand store) but love the organisation and tidiness in the store. The book collection is always a hit with my children.
I visited Once Upon a Child yesterday with a large box of toys that my kids no longer play with. They accepted only about half of the items and offered me $32, which I declined, especially since one of the toys alone was worth $30 and still unopened in its original packaging. They also took some of the mini figurines I brought in and placed them in their store’s plastic bags, only to later take them back, saying they needed the bags to reuse or recycling. I found that odd. What really bothered me was how one of the staff members handled the situation she was quite aggressive and rude, which made the experience uncomfortable. Overall, I left disappointed and don’t plan to return.
I had such a great experience at Once Upon a Child, all thanks to one of their amazing employees Anamika. From the moment I walked in, she was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. She patiently guided me through the store, answered all my questions, and even offered thoughtful suggestions based on what I was looking for.
I love the store, good clothes, tidy enough, but I dread going here because of the one older lady who is passive aggressive. Every time I have to deal with her, I brace myself for some unnecessary rudeness. The way she talks to staff and clients is condescending. Even people who are friendly get some sort of snarky response. I just read plenty of reviews below saying the exact same thing. If there was another location closer I would go to that to avoid all this unpleasantness.
My kid wanted a train set. 2 trains and about 30 track pieces of varying shapes and sizes. These were contained in 3 plastic nets attached together. The worker wanted to keep the nets and have me carry out all of the individual pieces. Insane. Left it on the counter and walked out.
When I read all the reviews and think about the customer service experience and look at the trend, as a person of Colour all I can think of is “Racism” and I don’t take that stuff lightly considering what POCs have done for this country.
