Great salon. I’ve been here a few times now and Farnaz has always done a great job with my hair, whether it’s a cut, colour or just a blow dry. Highly recommended!
I have been a customer of A Touch of Class hair salon for 4 years, and overall it has been a welcoming place. I usually don’t leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience so others are aware before booking with the Intermediate Stylist, Emily. I had an appointment with her a few days ago on Dec. 4th for highlights and a haircut, and from the beginning, the interaction felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. She accused me of being late, even though I arrived 5 minutes early. When I showed proof of my scheduled time, she changed her explanation and blamed the receptionist for entering the wrong appointment time in the system. When I politely asked the receptionist to confirm that my appointment was at 11:45 AM, not 11:00 AM as Emily claimed, Emily became visibly angry, pulled my hair harshly, and told the receptionist to leave because "there was no need to confirm anything" - even though just moments earlier Emily had placed the blame on the receptionist behind her back. Throughout the appointment (almost 3 hours), her tone was hostile and dismissive. At one point she said, "If you’re not happy with your hair color results, then stop coming here” - which is something no professional should ever say to a customer. It was clear that Emily was upset because I had spoken with the salon owner, Gary, after my last appointment. I did not place blame on Emily - I only shared that the toner results were darker than expected, and Gary kindly offered a credit toward my next visit, which happened to be this appointment. Instead of handling the situation respectfully, Emily allowed her personal feelings to take over, and her attitude remained unwelcoming and disrespectful throughout the service. It’s reasonable to expect a stylist to treat clients with professionalism and respect, even when feedback or corrections are discussed. A customer should never feel unwelcome, uncomfortable, or guilty for respectfully sharing the results of a service. PS: This review is only about my experience with Emily. The salon overall - and especially the owner, Gary - deserves a 5-star review, which I will be posting on Facebook since Google does not allow more than one review.
I got a botox treatment and a haircut. I’m just really disappointed and upset with the haircut. I asked for a V-shape by farnaz but it turned out very uneven and choppy. It doesn’t look blended at all. My hair is very short because of this. I didn’t have time to really see the haircut while at the salon but looking at it now, I’m really upset. Instead of a gradual flow from short to long, the layers have visible, uneven steps. I even showed an inspo picture (I attached the picture I showed) but I guess that didn’t help.
I’m writing this review with disappointment because I’ve been a regular at Touch of Class Salon every 2–3 weeks for my blow dries. I’ve had many good experiences with other staff here, which is exactly why today’s incident felt so upsetting and honestly unacceptable. I booked my appointment, arrived on time, and still had to wait around 10 minutes, which I can usually overlook because salons get busy. But what happened during my service is what crossed the line. While my blow dry was in progress, one of the staff members ( a mature woman with short white hair) came over and started saying that the stylist working on me was supposed to be helping her with her client. She kept repeating variations of: her client needed something done half an hour ago and that my stylist was needed elsewhere. The tone wasn’t neutral or professional — it was pressuring, dismissive, and made me feel like my appointment was an inconvenience and that I wasn’t a priority even though I had booked like everyone else. I calmly said that I had an appointment time, that I had somewhere to be, and that if there was a scheduling conflict they could have called me in advance. Instead of acknowledging the situation or apologizing for the disruption, she turned it around on me and started insisting I had only booked a “30 minute slot” and that my appointment was for a blow dry only. She then said they couldn’t accommodate flat ironing the roots. For context: I have curly hair, and I always ask for flat iron on the roots with my blow dry because that is the only way it stays smooth and lasts. This isn’t some random last-minute request — it’s a normal part of blow drys and many customers ask for this. The bigger issue wasn’t even the service itself — it was the way she spoke to me and the complete lack of care that I was also a paying client with a scheduled appointment. What really disturbed me was how unapologetic and rude she was. She didn’t seem to care that I was being inconvenienced. She didn’t acknowledge that I’m a regular customer. She just kept emphasizing her client and her urgency as though my time and my appointment mattered less. And I am going to say this directly: I strongly believe race played a role in how I was treated. I’m a brown woman, and the disrespect felt pointed. It was the kind of interaction that leaves you with that familiar, sinking feeling — where you can sense you’re being spoken down to and treated as less important or less deserving of basic courtesy. I can’t prove intent in a single moment, but I can absolutely speak to impact, and the impact was clear: I felt diminished, disregarded, and like my presence and business didn’t matter in the way another client’s did. That is not something I’m willing to ignore or rationalize away. I’m sharing this because businesses don’t improve unless we are honest about experiences like this. If you want to serve a diverse community, you need to make sure all clients are treated with equal respect — not just in the service you deliver, but in the way staff communicate, prioritize, and handle scheduling issues. To management: this is a training and culture issue as much as a customer service issue. If a stylist is double-booked or needed elsewhere, that isn’t the customer’s fault — and it should never be handled by interrupting a service and making a client feel like they’re in the way. Even though I’ve had positive experiences with other team members in the past, this interaction is enough for me to stop coming. There are plenty of salons in Burlington/Oakville that offer great service without the attitude and without making someone feel unwelcome or undervalued. I would also encourage other women of color to trust their instincts and spend their money where they are treated with respect. We deserve better.
Have been coming to A Touch of Class for several years. Gary does my hair and I absolutely love the way he takes care of it. He knows my hair pretty well by now and knows what it will and won't do. I highly recommend this Salon.
I really enjoy getting my hair done by Elizabeth. I love the salon, its very comfortable and inviting.
Gary is the best!! Our entire family comes here for cut and style and colour (woman, man and teenager) and we are all really happy with the service. The salon is lovely and so are all the staff. I highly recommend this place!!
I always leave with the best hair cut and colour! The staff is helpful and caring and the facilities are very clean and well kept!
I had 4+ inches removed and my hair looks & feels great and is very easy to style. If you want attention to detail, a comfortable & relaxed atmosphere, honesty and a great look then this is the place for you. Thanks so much Gary!p.s. Lots of compliments.
Very disappointed. I wanted a cut and a colour with highlights. I met with the colorist/stylist to discuss what I wanted, and I was very specific, and brought pictures of myself with the style that I wanted. I asked for a few chunkis of colour, not stripes. My father commented that I look like a zebra. I wanted choppy bangs - they are straight. And I asked for some volume at the crown. The stylist blow dried the top of my head holding the dryer above me and blowing downward. My hair is as flat as a pancake. I won't be going back.
